Ken claims to feed no cats. Ken feeds five cats, chief among them Mr Whiskers, the tabby who sleeps on number 5's wall and belongs to nobody and therefore to Ken. The cat food line in Ken's budget is filed under 'garden'.

His daughter Claire calls every evening at seven — the call that saved £28,000. Claire works with Sarah Morgan, which makes number 12 Ken's unofficial next of kin on the street. Jack Morgan does his lawn edges for £2 and negotiated hard for it, which Ken respected enormously. Biscuit visits daily and is fed, which Ken also denies.

Moved the £28,000 into proper savings while deciding properly — MoneyHelper guidance session booked at Claire's insistence. Now tells the scam story to everyone, on purpose: embarrassment shared is somebody else's savings kept.
